Ilse is an all-round strategic communications professional, who helps businesses secure their license to operate by effectively building and maintaining trusted relations with key stakeholders. Throughout her international career, Ilse worked and lived in Brussels, the USA and the Netherlands. During her 20+ years’ experience, she spent over 15 years in senior corporate affairs roles, covering the full spectrum of corporate communications from public affairs, corporate and (crisis) media relations, CSR and community engagement, to employee engagement and executive positioning.

When scientists find a new species, they get to give it a name. A team of scientists from Newcastle University made a shocking discovery by finding plastic contamination inside a new deep-sea species. Together with WWF they then named this new prawn after this problem to deliver a message. This was the birth of “Eurythenes plasticus”, an idea that won more than 110 awards, including a Gold Lion in Cannes, a Grand Prix for Good at Eurobest, 4 Graphite pencils at D&AD, ranking Marquito and Markão as Top 6 Copywriter and Top 9 Art Director in the world, according to The Drum report in 2021.

For the Ministry of Foreigner Affairs of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, they created TheDropStore, a dystopian supermarket experience where its products were imagined as they were produced facing a water crisis. Floods, drought and lack of access to clean water changed shapes, prices, availability and ways of consumption of daily products. An idea recognized at global festivals like the Cannes Lions, and local Dutch ones like the ADCN.

Karlijn Marchildon is Managing Director Brand for Edelman Amsterdam, where she leads the cross-disciplinary Brand Division team geared towards driving conversation for ambitious brands. Her sector expertise spans tech, lifestyle, FMCG, retail, and e-mobility.

Prior to joining Edelman, she was Head of Brand at VanMoof – the fast growing designer e-bike brand – with half a million riders across 20 markets worldwide.
