What does a typical day in the life of an Account Manager look like?

There is never a typical day at Edelman Amsterdam which is also a fun part of the job! Working on a diverse group of clients including across crisis and issues briefs means no day is the same and plans can change, fast!  I also work on our European affiliate programme so it’s a great opportunity to play an active part in making cross-border new biz opportunities happen!

What three skills do you think are essential to fulfil your role?

So, I think you need to demonstrate flexibility, empathy and dedication. If you know your team and keep things fun – you can enable them to do their best work! Applying a tenacious and thorough approach that drives creativity and growth for clients and ourselves, which feels very much aligned with Edelman’s philosophy

What do you like best about working at Edelman?

Entrepreneurship is something that is reflected in our culture and being able to take ownership, seize opportunities and tailor your career are elements I really like about my job

I actually liked working for Edelman way better than studying at uni so I never left the business after my work as an intern undergrad. I was just learning more and was having a good time with my colleagues. Since then, I’ve made great connections through a secondment in London and through working with our international colleagues and client base.

I also enjoy the social side of Edelman life, with a fun office, amazing colleagues (they let me do the music when we were having drinks pre-covid, although they might come to regret that at one point) and we’ve done many things to keep having fun online

What are some of the challenges you face in your day-to-day role?

In any client service job – there are never enough hours in a day – but no matter how many times I’ve talked to a client about how the Dutch media landscape works or faced a last minute ask – I keep finding motivation, also in the little things

What’s been your most memorable moment at Edelman so far?

Definitely our parties which are off the charts (although currently replaced by online quizzes, drinks and murder mysteries) and also my secondment to London where I’ve made some good friends

What’s your favourite part of a working day?

Wrapping stuff up for yourself, clients, anyone

How do you stay motivated?

Find the challenges that motivate you and keep finding more – setting goals to keep learning and learning!

What’s your top tip for working from home?

Make sure to have a change of scene as you complete different tasks, get some fresh air and don’t work on your bed

Did anything surprise you when you joined Edelman?

I couldn’t believe the extent to which everyone gets along, whether it’s cracking a new brief, enjoying a drink or talking on the phone – it’s a great crew and we keep stuff enjoyable!

Finally, how do you see your career path developing in the future?

I’ve got a passion for media relations – whether its crisis or getting a client coverage that makes their day. I also enjoy complex problem solving and Edelman really enables me to take this skill set to the next level, and because we do many things integrated, you keep learning new stuff and findings new things you didn’t knew you liked
